Peter Reid says Everton were right to sack Ronald Koeman this early in the season.
The Dutchman was relieved of his duties on Monday after collecting just eight points in the first nine games of the season.
And Reid, who won two titles with the Toffees in the 1980's, believes the club's decision was justified.
"For me it's got to be sooner rather than later because we are in a relegation fight now," said Reid.
"When you are bottom of that league and the pressure is on and confidence isn't there you need a manager, you need a fresh outlook, you need more enthusiasm.
"Don't ask me for names because I am hopeless at anything like that but it has got to be soon."
