Exclusive: Belgium keen on capping Anderlecht forward Francis Amuzu after Ghana interest

Published on: 12 May 2022

Belgium are keen on handing Anderlecht forward Francis Amuzu a senior debut following interest for Ghana, Footballghana.com can report.

The enterprising forward who was born in Ghana but raised in the European country has featured for Belgium U-19 and U-21 youth teams.

He has since been overlooked by the technical handlers of the senior team.

But a strong interest from the Ghana Football Association in a bid to convince Amuzu to switch allegiance will force Belgium to invite him to ward off Ghana interest.

Footballghana.com understands Belgium coach Roberto Martinez sees the Ghanaian a potential role as wingback for Amuzu in his 3-4-3 system.

Amuzu has eight goals and three assists in 34 league games this season.

Ghana held Nigeria to a 1-1 draw in the Nigerian capital, winning the tie on away goals to become the first African country to book a ticket to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Ghana will face Portugal, who beat Ghana 2-1 in the group stages on their last appearance at the tournament in 2014, and South Korea in Group H in Qatar before their anticipated re-match with two-time World Cup winners Uruguay.

African powerhouse Ghana qualified by beating Nigeria, while South Korea and their talismanic striker Son Heung-min will also look to unsettle the perceived bigger footballing heavyweights — just as South Korea did by beating Germany at Russia 2018.
