Bordeaux defender Gideon Mensah is confident Ghana can break Africa jinx by winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Ghana have been placed in Group H together with Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea for the global showpiece which is scheduled for November 21 to December 18 in Qatar.

No African team has never won the World Cup but Mensah is optimistic this could change in Qatar.

"That could be possible, why not" Mensah exclusively told Footballghana.com. when asked that Ghana's chances of winning the tournament.

"These are players we are going to play against and we play with them in our various clubs so obviously we know them and from time to time we've been learning their system. We've been getting used to their system so I think it's just a matter of time of us thinking and sitting down and having a plan and strategy to go against them."

"If we do it right, with God's grace we are going to make it."

Ghana came close to reaching the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2010 after losing to Uruguay in a dramatic penalty shoot out.

Black Stars were left to rue a missed penalty in the last minute of extra time when Luiz Suarez appeared to have handed the ball with his hand.

Suarez was shown a red card but Asamoah Gyan's spotkick hit the crossbar to stun Ghana and their supporters in Johannesburg's Soccer City.
