Fantasy teams: In search of hidden gems

Published on: 28 June 2017

With less than two months to go before the start of the new Premier League season it will soon be time for fans to start assembling their fantasy teams.

Stars from Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur will undoubtedly be popular selections, but finding unexpected points scorers can be the difference between winning and losing whichever competition takes your fancy.

City are the current 7/4 favourites for next season's title and this free bet code from SkyBet can help you get involved, but if you think one of the outsiders can make a splash next term who will be the hidden gems that fire them up the table?

We take a look at three players who could have a big impact on fantasy teams next season.

Dwight Gayle (Newcastle United)

Gayle was prolific in the Championship last season, netting 23 goals in 34 appearances under Rafael Benitez.

The 26-year-old had a frustrating time at Crystal Palace in his first stint in the Premier League as he found himself down the pecking order, but has been given a new lease of life in the North East.

Given his form last year he will be relied upon to score the goals to help keep Newcastle in the league next season.

Manuel Lanzini (West Ham United)

The Hammers, who kick-off their pre-season fixtures against Werder Bremen on 28 July struggled in their second season under Slaven Bilic with a disappointing campaign that saw them flirt with the possibility of relegation.

Their transition to the London Stadium has been a very difficult one with some forgettable games, but the club will be hoping to bounce back next season and fire themselves into the top ten.

A player vital to that is likely to be Lanzini who has become the team's creative spark since Dimitri Payet's exit.

Lanzini pitched in with eight goals and two assists in 35 appearances last term, creating 49 chances for his teammates.

West Ham fans will be expecting the Argentinian to increase those production levels once again. If he can perform consistently and the club recruit well he could be in for an even better season.

Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace)

Getting Zaha to sign a new contract at a reported £100,000 a week was a huge statement of intent from the club.

The Ivory Coast international will be a key figure in the Eagles team next season with him and Chrisitan Benteke showing signs that they can form a formidable partnership.

Zaha registered nine assists alongside seven goals last season in his most productive Premier League campaign to date.

He turns 25 in November and with more experience under his belt he is likely to improve those figures next term.
