FC Kaiserslautern Managing Director Thomas Hengen has commended the club's capture of highly-rated winger Aaron Opoku.

The 23-year-old joins the club from fellow Bundesliga II side Hamburg SV for the 2022-23 season.

At FC Kaiserslautern, Opoku will have the chance to play regularly and is expected to play a key role for the side this term.

"We're happy that in Aaron Opoku we've been able to recruit a quick switch player and an excellent assist provider who can also be a goal threat."

"He can be used variably on offense and will make our game more unpredictable. We are glad that Aaron fully identifies with our path and our goals and wants to help with our development," says FCK Managing Director Thomas Hengen as quoted by the club's official website.

Born in Hamburg, he started playing football with the Hamburger Turnerschaft before moving to the youth academy at HSV at the age of 12.

After he had gone through all the youth teams at Rothosen, he signed his first professional contract with HSV in the summer of 2018.

In order to gain more playing time, he was loaned out to FC Hansa Rostock, SSV Jahn Regensburg and VfL Osnabrück for the past three seasons.

In his professional career so far, Opoku has gained experience in 25 second division games (1 goal, 2 assists) and 65 third division games (8 goals, 21 assists).

In the past season at VfL Osnabrück, he registered 15 assists and was the third best assist provider in the 3rd division.

He has made seven appearances for Germany U-19 and U-20 sides.
