It is no secret that football transfer fees have gone crazy, especially after Neymar's big money move to PSG from Barcelona in the summer.

However, fans were shocked when reports of a potential £140 million deal involving Philippe Coutinho moving to Barcelona were mentioned. Liverpool stood firm and did not sell their man.

Ex-Manchester United defender and Champions League winner Rio Ferdinand believes it was the right decision.

"When they were talking about the fee which was being muted about for him if Barcelona or etc were going to try and buy him, £130-£140million, the only thing you would say is 'is he going to get enough goals to warrant that?'," he stated.

"In this form, it suggests yes. He's got to continue in this vein of form of scoring goals."

Ferdinand is a firm believer that Coutinho is a game changer, capable of getting crucial goals and assists for his team.

"He is the manipulator, he gets things going, everything goes through him in terms of going forward and the creativity in this team. He's a fantastic footballer, great brain," he said.

Liverpool will be hoping Coutinho commits his long term future to the club, and continues to link up with the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.
