Published on: 11 August 2022

The Professional Footballers Association of Ghana has urged the Black Princesses to aim for the ultimate prize ahead of their opening game in FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.

The Black Princesses will play their first game against the USA on Thursday, August 11,  before taking on Japan and the Netherlands in their subsequent Group D games.

Ghana have been in San Jose for the past one week to put final touches to their preparations for the global showpiece which kicked off on Wednesday, August 10, 2022.

Below is a statement from the PFAG:

"Our wish as an Association is for the Black Princesses, who have qualified for the world cup for the sixth successive time, endeavour to go beyond the group stages this time around, and possibly bring home the cup."

"We know the team had been put to test in the build-up to the world stage through all the matches you played, both home and away.

"Good luck to our Black Princesses and we are confident they will make us proud.

"The PFAG will always be with you and for you!"

Black Princesses skipper Evelyn Badu will miss the game after sustaining an ankle injury in the teams training in Costa Rica. The Avaldnes midfielder is currently in POP awaiting scan results to confirm the extent of injury to the ankle.

Ghana are in a record sixth straight World Cup appearance having previously played in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018.

The Princesses are eyeing their first qualification to the second round of the tournament having failed to do so in their previous engagements in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018.

Ghana will face Japan next before taking on the Netherlands in their final Group D matches.
