Financial constraints delaying the completion of Multi-Purpose Youth Resource Centers – Mustapha Ussif

Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has disclosed that the delay in completing the Multi-Purpose Youth Resource Centers is due to financial difficulties.

Among the 10 planned projects, only the Koforidua Multi-purpose Centre has been commissioned.

While some centers are nearing completion, progress has halted at other locations.

“I admit we've had challenges with regards to payments but because the contractors haven't handed over the facilities, we can't use them,” Ussif said at a press briefing.

“We're actively working to pay the monies for the certificates raised so they can return to work, Azumah Nelson, Navrongo, and Nhyinahin.

“I want to assure you that all the contractors will be duly paid and will soon return to work. Work will soon start on Navrongo, Yendi and Accra phase 2.”

The initiative to establish ten multi-purpose Youth Resource Centers nationwide commenced in 2018 under the leadership of then Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah.

These centers were launched as part of the government's strategy to alleviate the sports infrastructure gap in the country.
