Financial power of Ethiopian league makes it more competitive than the Ghana league - Umar Bashiru

Umar Bashiru, a former midfielder for Asante Kotoko, has emphasized that the robust financial backing of the Ethiopian Premier League lends it a high level of competitiveness.

At the age of 26, Bashiru made an impact upon joining Ethiopia's Insurance FC in 2022, establishing himself as a standout player for the top-tier team.

Following his exceptional performance with Insurance FC, he has now signed for the newly promoted Premier League outfit, Commercial Bank Ethiopia SA.

“The Ethiopian league is also very competitive because of the monetary aspect and the players they bring in this league, it has made it very competitive," the former Karela United man told Radio Gold.

“And you know in Ethiopia, they base their style of play more on the technical aspect. Most of the teams rely on possession based football.

“But if you look at our Ghana league, it’s a bit physical and Ghana we base our style more on the physical aspect than the technical aspect.

“So I can say that is difference and that’s what makes the Ghana Premier League very tough.”
