Five things you may not know about Marc Cucurella

Published on: 25 November 2018

- Marc Cucurella Saseta (22/07/1998) took his first steps in the game when he began playing futsal in his native Alella at the tender age of four.

- Cucurella's career started out at RCD Espanyol, after his father, Oscar, took him along for a trial at the club's academy. He went on to turn out for Los Pericos' youth teams up until the Infantil age group, at which point he caught FC Barcelona's eye and the Catalan giants promptly swooped to secure his services.

- Cucurella was discovered by Los Azulgranas' Guillermo Amor and Albert Puig. The talent-spotting duo were wowed by his eye-catching display in a game against CF Damm. Cucu, as he is known in the dressing room and amongst his closest circle, checked in at the Camp Nou back in 2012.

- His footballing role models are David Luiz and Carles Puyol. Apart from the uncanny resemblance between his hairstyle and that of the former Barcelona captain, Cucurella also boasts the Barça legend's battling spirit and never-say-die attitude.

- The promising youngster made his LaLiga Santander debut on 25 September 2018 in SD Eibar's 1-0 away success over Espanyol, an encounter in which the Catalan wing-back completed the full 90 minutes. In Saturday's clash against Real Madrid, Cucu, who was employed in a less familiar left-wing role, well and truly stole the show. The on-loan Barcelona starlet was involved in Los Armeros' three goals and was a constant thorn in Los Blancos' backline. Interestingly enough, the meeting with the Madrilenians and his aforementioned league bow are the only two occasions in which Eibar's summer recruit has completed a full game this term. Needless to say, if this latest showing is anything to go by, we can most certainly expect to see much more of Cucurella's considerable talents in the weeks and months to come.
