According to a report published by the Mirror, former Argentina international Matias Almeyda has emerged as a shock candidate for the vacant Leicester City managerial position.

The 43-year-old Almeyda is currently managing Mexican side Guadalajara.

He has also previously coached River Plate and Banfield in his native Argentina. Another notable candidate who has expressed interest in the Leicester and Everton vacancies is Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs.

Giggs has been unemployed since he left his role as assistant manager of Manchester United last year after Jose Mourinho was appointed as manager of the club.

Giggs said: "I think you look at those two teams — Leicester being champions two seasons ago, Everton being a fantastic club with a fantastic history —for me these are clubs I would be interested in."
