Former Black Stars coach, C.K Akonnor, has expressed his approval for the long-term contract granted to Otto Addo, the current coach of the national team.

In an interview with Citi Sports, Akonnor stated that the lengthy contract signifies a positive shift, providing Addo with ample time to develop and prepare the team for future competitions.

Akonnor, who has previously led the Black Stars, emphasized the importance of national support for Addo. He commended the coach's performance in the recent matches against Mali and the Central African Republic, which were crucial for Ghana's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

"I think eventually finally the fact that they have given him a long term contract says it all," Akonnor said. "This is what we all hope for meaning that he will have time to prepare this team for a long time at least five years."

Akonnor further urged the Ghanaian public to rally behind Addo, stating, "He needs our support everybody must support him what he is done in the last two matches I think it is very hopeful it looks like the future is bright we need to support him and whatever he believes is wrong he believes is right we need to support him to do it."

This is Otto Addo's second stint with the Ghana national team, having previously managed the Black Stars. His current task is to guide Ghana through the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is set to take place in Canada, Mexico, and the USA.

Ghana is currently placed second in Group I of the qualifiers, with nine points, level with Comoros after four games.
