Former Black Stars skipper Stephen Appiah reveals how he earned the nickname 'tornado'

Former Brescia midfielder Stephen Appiah revealed that he got the nickname 'tornado' during Parma's Coppa Italia final game against Juventus for his athleticism and strength. 

Appiah, 39, earned admiration from fans in his clubs and the national team for his exceptional performances. He was affectionately dubbed 'tornado' by many.

The former Juventus man was asked how he came about the nickname by South Africa sports journalist Carol Tshabalala and he made the reveal.

"I got the name Tornado after during [Parma] game against Juventus in the Coppa Italia final. I was all over the pitch and the commentator was saying that this guy is strong like a Tornado. That's where I got the name," Appiah disclosed.

Parma won the Coppa Italia trophy in 2001/02 season after beating Juventus in the final showdown. The score line was 2-2 but Parma took the trophy home due to away goals rule.

Appiah made 67 appearances for Ghana and scored 14 goals.
