Former Ghana international Stephen Appiah has thrown his weight behind the current Black Stars players to end the country’s trophy drought.

The Black Stars trophy drought has prolonged for 41-years as the search for a continental title continues.

Ghana have come close to ending the trophy drought in the last decade, 2010 Angola losing to Egypt in the finals and in 2015 Equatorial Guinea- Gabon as the Stars lost to Ivory Coast on penalty shootout.

The former Juventus star featured for the Black Stars for 15-years whiles captaining the team to secure their first World Cup qualification in 2006.

In an interview with Sompa FM, Appiah, who wished he had won a trophy with Ghana has thrown his weight behind the current generation to end the trophy drought.

"We will still be there and support our brothers who are playing today. We will motivate them because, at the end of the day, we are all Ghanaians. Although we couldn't win one, it doesn't mean we have to be against them winning,” he said.

The Black Stars will be back to action in June for the remaining two AFCON qualifying games against Central Africa Republic and Madagascar.
