Former Black Stars defender John Paintsil has urged Ghana Premier League clubs to do more in order to raise the standard of the domestic league.

Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz, the former Fulham defender expressed satisfaction with the support given to clubs by the Ghana Football Association.

However, he has entreated clubs to do better for themselves to augment the support they get from the football association.

“Every year, before the league starts, the GFA provides footballs and money for the clubs but in my time, this wasn’t the case so the clubs must help themselves.” He said this while discussing the state of Ghana football.

“The little you get, use it judiciously. Wherever you can get money to finance the team, you should do it. If the local (based) players are happy, you will see that the players will stay here (in Ghana).”

John Paintsil played at the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups for Ghana and spent time in the English Premier League with Fulham and West Ham United.
