Former Ghana forward Augustine Arhinful has thrown his weight behind Chris Hughton for the vacant Black Stars coaching job following Otto Addo’s departure.

The Black Stars were eliminated after the first round of the tournament following a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay.

After defeating South Korea in their second group game, the Black Stars needed a draw or win against Uruguay to advance to the last 16 stage.

But the team failed to negotiate for points against their ‘enemies’ Uruguay.

At the post-match conference, the Germany-based trainer announced he has stepped down as coach of the Black Stars to concentrate on his role as the talent development coach of Dortmund.

It was always clear that I would stop after the World Cup. My family and I see our role in Germany. I like my life at (Borussia) Dortmund (where he works as a talent coach, and wants to carry on there.” he said.

This means the Ghana FA must appoint a new trainer who will steer affairs of the team for the upcoming games.

In an interview, the former Ghana international asserted it will not be out of place if the Ghana FA appoints Chris Hughton to lead the national team.

“He was part of the technical team for the World Cup and I believe whatever he has learnt he has learnt. The challenges he has encountered and others, I am sure if given the job he can be his own man because I am people have whispered into his ears and he knows what he can do when given the job”

“It will not be out of place if he is given the job” he said on Vision 1 FM as quoted by Footballghana.com.
