Former Hearts of Oak defender, Larry Sumaila, has credited ex-Black Stars goalkeeper, Richard Kingson, for playing a pivotal role in the club's domestic treble triumph in 2021.

Sumaila, who joined premier league club Samartex at the start of the concluded season, acknowledged Kingson, along with current physical trainer Jordan Diatey and assistant coach Nii Noi, as individuals who motivated and inspired the squad during challenging times.

Speaking to Radio Gold, Sumaila expressed his gratitude to Richard Kingson, highlighting his presence and support during a difficult period for the team.

“Big shout outs to Richard Kingson, he was at our training grounds at that moment, the difficult moment.

“The moment when we had nobody, no goalkeeper’s trainer, no coach, no physiotherapist.

“It was Nii Noi, Olele Kingson and the current physical trainer, Jordan Daitey. These three people were with us.

“Richard Kingson after every training when we gather, he will be giving us motivation.

“There was no goalkeeper’s trainer, everybody just left so he opted to be the goalkeepers’ trainer then.

“After every training session, he will just tell us that, this is the profession we have chosen and if we want to fly high, this is the time to fly high.

“So we had three games against Dwafs, Liberty Professionals and Asante Kotoko and he told us to pick at least seven points from the three games and we will see where we will be in Ghana.

“So he promised us an amount that if we are able to do that, he will give it to us.

“We beat Dwarfs 3-2, we went to beat Liberty 1-0 and we drew against Kotoko in an empty stadium so the next day when we came for training, Richard Kingson was just happy that we made him proud.”
