Former Kotoko striker Kwadwo Poku Mahala questions Prosper Narteh Ogum’s rotational policy for goalkeepers

Former Asante Kotoko forward Kwadwo Poku Mahala has expressed his displeasure about coach Prosper Narteh Ogum’s rotational policy in relation to the goalkeeping department in the ongoing campaign.

The former WAFA boss has adopted a rotational policy to give room to all goalkeepers at the club to exhibit their talent.

This season, Ogum has given opportunities to Frederick Asare, Moise Pouaty and captain Danlad Ibrahim to feature for the Ghanaian giants.

Danlad has endured limited game time this season, with Frederik Asare taking precedence in goalkeeping duties.

But the former Asante Kotoko player says he is unhappy with the rotational policy in relation to the goalkeeping department of the club.

“For Ogum to say he has rotated the goalkeepers for the various matches to me was a wrong move. He shouldn’t have done that but rather let them compete for the role as to who will be number one in the post”

“Football is all about challenge, all the three goalkeepers need to charge up for a game. By doing that a goalkeeper will feel proud if he’s selected to be part of the 18 match squad. A goalkeeper will feel super relaxed if he knows he won’t be in post for a game and for that will only train harder when it’s time for him to be in the post for a game”

“During our time, we had Osei Boateng, George Owu, and Louis Quainoo. Our coach at the time will select a goalkeeper for a game based on performance at training. So the least performed goalkeeper at training will not be part of the final match day squad, so they put in their best. Rotating goalkeepers always breed laziness among them”

Asante Kotoko finds themselves in a challenging position, languishing in eleventh place on the Ghana Premier League table due to a string of disappointing results.

The Porcupine warriors has suffered six defeats in their last seven games in the Ghanaian top-flight, picking just a point across the period.
