Former Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt has explained how he played his part inLiverpool making one of their greatest signings of recent times - Luis Suarez

Speaking recently to Four Four Two, Kuyt claimed his opinions on the Suarez from his days in the Dutch Eredivisie helped push alongthe deal.

"Prior to Luis' arrival at Liverpool, I was aware of the club's interest" Kuyt said.

"They had asked my opinion of him as a player, and of course I was very positive.

"Just after I heard that Luis about to sign, I called him to congratulate him and tell him that if he or his family needed anything - advice on housing - he could call. From the start there was a mutual click - with our families, too."

Suarez and Kuyt played together for eighteen months at Anfield before Kuyt moved to Turkish side Fenerbahce in 2012. And the 36-year-old believed their off the field bond helped their playing performances.

"Our bond was reflected on the pitch," Kuyt said.

"In his first six months we played together upfront, and we became a really good pairing. We both scored lots of goals and helped the team win lots of points."

Kuyt is a fan favourite at Anfield and is remembered fondlyby Reds fans for his work rate and ability to find the back of the net in important fixtures.

The Feyenoord front man scored over seventy goals for Liverpool, including goals in both the 2007Champions League final and 2012 League Cup final.

Suarez - who moved to Barcelona in 2014 - is also a Liverpool hero, due to his 31 league goals in the 2013/14 season which saw Liverpool produce their greatest Premier League title fight to date.
