Obi is expected to pen a one-year deal with the club if he passes his mandatory medical. He was linked with a move to newly-promoted West Bromwich Albion but he has opted to join the Potters.

He made 249 Premier League appearances for Chelsea during his 11-year spell at the club, where he won the Champions League in 2012.

He also won two league titles, three FA Cups, and the Europa League in 2013 with the Blues.

The Nigerian midfielder has previously played for Chinese side Tianjin TEDA and Middlesbrough.

Stoke won three of their last four games in 2019/20 Championship to pull away from relegation trouble and finish 15th under former Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill.
