Former South Africa player Mabalan backs Orlando Pirates to give Ghana's Kwame Peprah more playing time after impressive goalscoring form

Former South Africa player Dikgang Mabalan has urged Orlando Pirates to give Ghanaian forward Kwame Peprah more playing time after his impressive goalscoring form.

Peprah has scored four goals in 14 appearances this season for the club after a slow start to the season.

"It's a tricky one for Pirates because the window period gives you an opportunity to go to the transfer market and get someone," Mabalane tells Kickoff.com.

"If you do go out you don't want to have too many strikers in the team and not play them.

"You have just signed Peprah, there's Mhango who is trying to come back, there's Mabasa. So you don't want to overload your strikeforce with players that you are not going to use, and financially it's not going to make sense as well.

"So I think they'd rather be patient and hope that the other strikers also find form.

"That's what you want, to create a healthy competition, you don't want to have too many strikers who are not happy."

Mabalane added, "It tells supporters to back off a little bit and that there might be something there."

"Me myself, I've been wondering and getting worried about this man.

"As a striker that came as highly-rated as him, I commend the technical team who did a good thing by believing in him. The added pressure was also on him because he's a foreigner.

"Going forward he will need to be consistent, though it will not be easy because Pirates are also not consistent in terms of their performances.

"I just hope Thembinkosi Lorch's return will also relieve the pressure on him, the reason he was struggling to score is that there were no creative players."
