Former Spanish Coach Claims Ronaldo Should Be 'Proud' to Be Second to Barcelona's Lionel Messi

Former Spain coach Javier Clemente believes that Cristiano Ronaldo should be 'happy and proud' to be known as the second best player in the world to Barcelona's Lionel Messi - though he did admit Ronaldo "has better abs".

Clemente, who was speaking to Cadena SER, viaGoal, intimated that while there are facets of Ronaldo's game which are better than Messi's, the Argentinian beats him in all the key areas technically.

Ronaldo: "People tell my son: 'Your father isn't a good player, there's another one that's better than your father.'"pic.twitter.com/OoLtZt9smq

His comments come despite the fact Ronaldo picked up his fourth Ballon d'Or last month ahead of his rival - Ronaldo has won three of the last four awards, too - but Clemente is certain that Messi is head and shoulders above the rest.

Clemente said:"Messi is ahead of everyone. He does different things and the sum of those parts lifts him to first place.

"This doesn't mean the rest aren't any good, and I don't know why some people get angry because of it."

He went on to claim that Ronaldo should be happy to settle for second place, adding:"If you aren't the number one, who cares if you are number two; it's out of your control if one guy is born better than you are.

"Cristiano should be happy and proud to be second in the world.Cristiano has better abdominals, a height advantage, and he headers better. There are things that Cristiano does better, but Messi beats him in technique, ability and vision, and that's that.

"He should be happy and proud to be second in the world, there's no more noble thing in sport to recognise the quality of your rivals."

You can imagine this won't sit too well with Cristiano...
