Former Ireland international Robbie Keane was left impressed with Christian Atsu's brilliant performance in Newcastle United's a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The Ghanaian winger replaced Allan Saint-Maximin who suffered what appeared to be a hamstring injury in the first half of the game as he helped them record their first win of the 2019/20 season.

It did not take long for the Ghana international to have a big impact as 10 minutes after his introduction he supplied the assist for Joelinton’s goal.

Speaking on Sky Sports Premier League after the shock win for Newcastle, former Tottenham striker Keane says that he was blown away by Atsu’s performance.

“I thought he was brilliant,” said Keane. “He wasn’t scared to get at people, he’s very, very confident in possession.

“Great first touch here, this sets up the goal.”

Newcastle United will host struggling Watford at the St Jame's Park on Saturday in their matchday four fixture.
