Former Zambia captain Rainford Kalaba discharged from hospital after road accident

Rainford Kalaba, the former captain of the Zambian national football team, has been discharged from Lusaka's University Teaching Hospital (UTH) after recovering from a road traffic accident he was involved in two weeks ago.

Nzeba Chanda, the Public Relations Officer at UTH-Adult, confirmed Kalaba's release, stating that he is now ready to continue his recovery at his family home.

"After being involved in a road traffic accident two weeks ago, Mr. Rainford Kalaba has been discharged from the UTH-Adult where he was admitted," said Chanda. "Today marks exactly 14 days from the time of his admission. He is going to recuperate at his family home."

Kalaba, a revered figure in Zambian football, was previously the captain of the national team. His fans and the wider football community in Zambia have expressed relief and happiness at the news of his recovery.

The 37-year-old played 103 international matches for Zambia, scoring 15 goals. He played a crucial role in Zambia's triumph at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. His influence extended to TP Mazembe, where he clinched titles in the CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup, and CAF Super Cup.

Kalaba officially retired from active football on June 27, 2023, after a career spanning over 15 years.

As Kalaba begins his recovery journey, the Zambian football fraternity and his supporters are rallying behind him, wishing him a speedy and full recovery. The former national team captain is expected to take the necessary time to rest and recuperate.
