Foster aiming to play at 40

Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster has his sights set on playing on for several more years, having excelled since moving to Vicarage Road last summer.

The 35-year-old, who has won eight caps for England, signed a two-year contract with the Hornets last summer, as he left West Brom following their relegation from the Premier League.

I can carry on for as long as I want. I feel brilliant.

And Foster has enjoyed a superb season to date, helping Watford to maintain a position in the top half of the table, prompting him to speak of playing on for some time to come, as long as he avoids further injury problems.

He told the Harrow Times: "I can carry on for as long as I want. I feel brilliant.

"I have always (worried) about my knees, but touch wood they have been brilliant lately and so two, three, four more years.

"I'm trying to get to that 40-year-old mark. I'm training most of the time and I'm enjoying it.

"I was with Edwin Van der Sar at United and when he actually signed for them I think he was 35 and he learnt how to look after himself properly and he knew how to make himself fit for the Saturday.

"I watched him go year after year after year and actually when he retired he could have gone for another two or three years, I think he just got bored in the end. I learnt a lot from him."

Watford can be backed at 4/7 to finish in the top half of the Premier League table this season, while they are 11/8 to end up in the bottom half.
