Ghana defender Edwin Gyimah’s was issued with a clearance by Orlando Pirates before the close of the January window on the last day of last month, making him a free agent.
Though Pirates only announced their parting of ways with Gyimah on February 16, it has since been established that his exit papers had already been stamped before the close of last month’s transfer window.
Gyimah wrote a letter to the club indicating his desire to be released prior to his departure for the 2017 Afcon finals, with the Bucs agreeing to his request.
His representatives at ProSport International have now confirmed that his clearance letter allows him to move on with immediate effect, with Europe his preferred destination.
“We are busy looking for opportunities for him in Europe because that is where his desire is,” his representatives said. “There is nothing definite at the moment, but with his clearance issued before the transfer window closed, he is able to join another team outside the transfer window.”
Gyimah turns 26 next month and was one of only three players based in Africa in the Black Stars squad at the 2017 Afcon alongside goalkeepers Abdul-Fatau Dauda and Richard Ofori.
Prior to his departure, Gyimah was involved in a scuffle with former coach Muhsin Ertugral in September last year at Cape Town International Airport after a league match with Ajax Cape Town.
