Gabriel Jesus will be Arsenal’s ‘number one’ ahead of Eddie Nketiah if he joins this summer - Ex-Chelsea striker Cascarino

Former Chelsea forward, Tony Cascarino has disclosed Gabriel Jesus will be Arsenal’s ‘number one’ ahead of Eddie Nketiah if he joins from Manchester City this summer.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for Manchester City and Brazil forward Jesus following the imminent exit of Alexandre Lacazette who is set to re-join Lyon.

This leaves Ghana target Nketiah as the senior striker leading the line for the Gunners - he is expected to sign a new contract and remain at the Emirates stadium.

"He (Jesus) will be number one. But the lad (Nketiah) has shown enough and he is still young enough," Cascarino told talkSPORT

"Imagine if Eddie Nketiah improved again? Which I imagine he would. Then, he would become a player that is going to be good enough along the line.

The former Aston Villa ace added, "He’s not ready quite yet. But if you see an improvement this pre-season and going into next year, then he might be even better."

"If Gabriel Jesus comes in and he doesn’t do as well as expected, and then Nketiah gets the opportunity and takes them, then it’s putting pressure. I think it’s a great thing for Arsenal to have."

Nketiah scored twice in their 2-1 win over 10-man Leeds United in the English Premier League on Sunday, taking his goal tally to four in 18 league games this season.

Nketiah has started the last seven games for the Gunners after previously struggling for minutes under Arteta.

The highly-rated forward scored twice against Chelsea, put up an incredible display in their wins over Manchester United and West Ham, and a starring role against Leeds.

He made 28 appearances for Arsenal last season, scored 10 goals and provided one assist in the process.
