Gareth Southgate Reveals the Reasons Behind Jack Wilshere's Recall to the England Squad

Published on: 06 November 2016

Gareth Southgate has admitted that Jack Wilshere's loan move to Bournemouth from Arsenal, and his performances since joining the club, are the key reasons behind his decision to recall the midfielder to the England fold.

Speaking toFATV, the interim coach revealed that it's the right moment to bring Wilshere back into the fold after he spent time away from the group in the squads following Euro 2016. Wilshere had struggled for first team football at Arsenal in the early part of the season, and completed a loan move to the Vitality Stadium on transfer deadline day.

He's proven an important capture for Bournemouth since then, and has done enough in Southgate's eyes to warrant a call up to the fold again.

Southgate said: "Jack Wilshere is a player we feel has a lot of class and is now starting to get more games under his belt. It's a good moment to bring him back into the squad.

It's been important for him to get regular football for Bournemouth and I've watched him a couple of times in the past couple of weeks. We know the quality he possesses and it's good for him to know we have belief in him and that we want him in the squad.

Wilshere hasplayed every minute of theCherries' past three games, though he was unable to stop his side falling to defeat in the match with Sunderland on Saturday.

England play Scotland and Spain over the coming week.
