The former Leicester City striker, however, was on hand for another sly dig after the Croatian made up for his mistake by putting his side briefly in front during a frantic first half.

Lineker tweeted: "An assist and a goal for Lovren in a matter of minutes."

Roberto Firmino's fourth league goal of the season eventually saw off Alan Pardew's men during a quieter second half period.

The win leaves the Reds in third place in the Premier League, but remain off top spot due to Manchester City's superior goal difference, with both sides being joined by Arsenal on 23 points.
