Gary Neville Names 4 Midfielders Man Utd Should Consider to Replace Michael Carrick

Former Manchester United full-back Gary Neville has revealed four players that he thinks could be possible replacements for midfielder Michael Carrick.

The 35-year-old has been one of United's stand out performers since Jose Mourinho gave him a regular starting berth.

And the players that Neville suggested to replace the England international prove how much of a loss he will be considered when his time at the club comes to an end.

In response to a question asked during a Twitter Q&A, the pundit named four central midfielders, three of which play for either Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Xabi Alonso, of course, previously played his football at the Bernabeu, although his affiliation with Liverpool might make it an unlikely transfer. There's also the fact that he's the same age as Carrick.

But Mourinho, who is a self-confessed admirer of Carrick, has admitted that he may need to replace the ex Spurs player in the near future.

Michael is 35 years old, Mourinho said, quoted inthe Independentafter United drew with Arsenal last month. With such an intense game he was having some cramps in the last period which is normal.

It is very sad to know that time flies for every one of us. He is such a fantastic player and it is a pity, I always loved him, but instead of being his manager when he was 25 I am his manager when he is 35.

We have a good understanding. We know when he can play. We know when he is ready and when he needs a rest. I am still having Michael Carrick and probably for one more season. That's life.
