GATTUSO: "GREAT CHARACTER IS NEEDED"

Published on: 29 January 2019

On the eve of AC Milan v Napoli in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia at San Siro, scheduled for Tuesday 29 January at 20:45 CET, the Rossoneri's coach Gennaro Gattuso spoke in the pre-match press conference.

AHEAD OF AC MILAN V NAPOLI
"We must start again from the first 50 minutes in the league match, showing the same kind of character. In the final 30 minutes, we stopped trying to dribble and became increasingly stretched. This then allowed Napoli to show all of their characteristics. We have must have the desire to play and prove ourselves, dribbling the ball well".

IF HE HEARD FROM ANCELOTTI AFTER THE MATCH
"I like to spend the post-match period speaking together with my staff, however, I always hear from Carlo. There is never not a discussion and I respect him a lot".

WHAT'S NEEDED TO REDUCE THE GAP WITH JUVE AND NAPOLI?
"Experience is needed. We are a young side and we need to be playing these type of matches. To get back to being competitive then we need to be consistent in our performances, play and mentality. We've demonstrated this at times recently, but there are still too many highs and lows".

PIATEK
"He reminds me of Tomasson, he has very specific characteristics. Jon never relented in training and he gave us a great hand even when he wasn't starting. Piatek has just arrived but I like him, he's a curious lad and he's been looking at the photos at Milanello. He likes to observe, discuss and experience the structure that we have in place here."

BAKAYOKO
"One day a player is nothing and the next he's a phenomenon. I hear plenty of rumours but he must use his skills to help the team. He can beat a man and he's giving us a massive hand".

INJURIES
"Caldara and Biglia worked partially with us yesterday and they're both working on their physical conditions. I think that they'll be ready in a week. We're very happy with them. They have great desire to rejoin the team and they've demonstrated their commitment over the last few days".
