Gattuso: Piatek reminds me of Jon Dahl Tomasson

After knocking Napoli out of the Coppa Italia, AC Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso was quick to praise new signing and two-goal hero Krzysztof Piatek.

The Pole was the star of the show and bagged a brace with his first two shots on target, as the Rossoneri won 2-0 to advance to the semi-finals and a potential meeting wit city rivals Inter.

“Piatek is a player who can take us up a level in attack,” Gattuso told the press. “And today he made two goals from nothing. He reminds me of Jon Dahl Tomasson.

“The team played well, and when you have a player like him you have more desire. It’s beautiful to see and easier as well.

“[Lucas] Paqueta also did some good things, and didn’t lose the ball, plus we defended well too.”

Milan have conceded just three goals in their last nine matches, a feat Gattuso puts down to the desire of the team and a change in mentality.

“This Milan team is full of workers,” he went on, “and play in 25 metre areas, we are always short and tight.

“We are playing differently from the start of the season because some of the team has changed.

“Now we are now on our game, we don’t leave the field [mentally], while in the first three or four months when in a difficult period, fear took over.

“When we win the ball, the team have fun and try to do something a bit extra. When you have fun, you don’t feel like it is an effort.”
