Gazidis ousted Higuain at AC Milan

A background to the events that led to Gonzalo Higuain’s AC Milan exit has emerged, with it transpiring that new chief executive Ivan Gazidis immediately pushed for his departure.

The Argentina international joined the Diavolo on loan from Juventus in the summer with an option to make the move permanent but lasted just six months at San Siro before being reunited with former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, everything relating to ‘El Pipita’ was normal until October, when things began to take a turn for the worse when Gazidis arrived from Arsenal, as he immediately questioned the Higuain deal.

After putting paid to any thoughts from others within the club about re-signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic, he then focused on ending Higuain’s spell at the San Siro early, having had no intention of making the move permanent.

The report also claims that the lack of faith and support shown in Higuain from the club led to the steady breakdown of his relationship with Leonardo, culminating in the pair almost coming to blows.

Higuain’s decline in relations with the Milan hierarchy until it resulted in him refusing to report for duty for the Rossoneri’s trip to Genoa as he had already decided that his future lay elsewhere.
