Gent midfielder Elisha Owusu makes debut for Ghana against Nigeria

Gent midfielder Elisha Owusu made his debut for Ghana against Nigeria in the second leg of the 2022 World Cup playoffs at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

The midfielder came on in the 46th minute for Crystal Palace attacker Jordan Ayew.

Elisha Owusu plays for KAA Gent in the Belgian Pro League and has represented France at the junior level. However, after receiving an invitation from the Ghana Football Association, he chose to change nations.

Born in France, Owusu is of Ghanaian descent. Owusu is a youth product of Olympique Lyonnais, joining in 2010 and became the captain of their reserve side.

On 23 February 2017, Owusu signed his first professional contract with Lyon for 3 years. Owusu was loaned for the season to Sochaux. He made his professional debut with Sochaux in a 1–0 Ligue 2 loss to Grenoble Foot 38 on 27 July 2018.

Owusu has appeared in 17 games for Gent in the Belgian first division and 7 games in the UEFA Europa Conference competition.
