George Boateng to be named as Black Stars interim coach - Reports

Assistant coach of the Black Stars, George Boateng is expected to be named as the interim coach of the senior national team should Chris Hughton be sacked.

Hughton's future has been left in doubt as Executive Council members of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) set to announce the decision on Friday.

The ExCO are expected to meet on Friday to hold a meeting to make a decision on the future of the head coach.

The former Premier League manager has come under pressure following the back-to-back defeats against Mexico and USA.

After seven matches under Hughton, the Black Stars has recorded three wins, two draws and two defeats.

Hughton has however steered the Black Stars to secure qualification to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast next year.

The leadership of the football governing body is not convinced the former Newcastle United manager would have a good start to the World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros.

At the moment, the GFA are waiting for approval from government for the dismissal of Hughton.

If the 64-year-old is sacked, George Boateng will be named as the interim head coach of the team.

Chris Hughton was expected to announce his squad for the two opening games of the World Cup qualifiers later this month but the list has been delayed due to the decision to sack him.
