Ghana Football Association Executive Council member Mr Shaibu Salifu Zida has denied reports that the 2019/20 season has been cancelled.

Reports went rife in the local media that GFA Executive Council Members voted unanimously to bring an end to the season due to coronavirus pandemic which was halted all football activities since mid-March.

However, the Upper East Football Association Chairman has refuted such claims news in an interview.

"It’s not true the Executive Council of the GFA has cancelled the league season” How can we cancel the season when there has not been any stakeholders meeting," he told Ghanasportscenter.com.

"We had a meeting on Tuesday but we never talked about the league season."

"The FA is working out on taking a decision over the season but not such as purported has been done."

Sponsors such as StarTimes and MTN have been reportedly threatened to withdraw their sponsorship packages if the GFA decides to end the season abruptly.

In the last two years, Football competitions in Ghana have not been effective after the Anas Exposé which resulted in the cancellation of the 2018/19 season.

The Ghana Football Association announced last month that the date of football activities will be decided on June 30.

The Premier League was at its match week 15 stage when it was halted with Aduana Stars leading the table with 28 points.
