GFA should have sacked Chris Hughton after Black Stars defeats to Mexico and USA - Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe

Renowned football administrator, Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe has insisted Chris Hughton should been sacked after losing to Mexico and USA.

In the build-up to the first two games of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the Black Stars engaged Mexico and USA in friendly games in October.

However, Ghana suffered a 2-0 defeat against the CONCACAF champions before losing 4-0 to the US men's national team.

There were multiple reports suggesting that Hughton was facing the sack but he was retained for the first two games against Madagascar and Comoros.

After a hard-fought 1-0 win against Madagascar at the Baba Yara Stadium in their Group I opener, the Black Stars suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat against Comoros at the Stade de Moroni.

Speaking in an interview, Mr Mortagbe insisted that the Black Stars has no progression under Chris Hughton and must therefore be sacked.

According to him, if he were a member of the Executive Council of the GFA, he would have called for the sack of the 64-year-old after the defeats against Mexico and USA.

“If I were a member of the GFA Executive Council I would be moving that we contemplate a coaching change," he told Graphic Sports.

Despite the calls for Hughton's sack, he is expected to lead the Black Stars to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast next year where Ghana will face Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique in Group B.
