GFA vice presidential race: Kurt Okraku not under gov’t pressure as he remains neutral ahead of election

Sources close to the camp of Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku has revealed that he is not under any pressure to elect an imposed candidate for the vice-presidential role as he bids to remain neutral in the process.

The owner of Dreams FC emerged as the new head for the country’s football governing body after beating competition from George Afriyie, Fred Pappoe and Nana Yaw Amponsah at an electoral congress in the final week of October.

He is expected to have one of 12 Executive Council members as his vice to work closely together for the next four years to implement his numerous policies to ignite passion and create all stakeholders in the football community.

Earlier reports in the media has suggested that the GFA boss is being pressure by government to make Mark Addo his vice president.

Footballghana.com checks have however unearthed that Kurt Okraku is clueless to that report as sources close to his camp say he wants to remain neutral in the process that will see the election of his deputy on Tuesday at the GFA Secretariat.

A source who asked to remain anonymous in an interview with Ghanasoccernet.com shared, “Kurt will not be campaigning for any candidate and has not been asked by government to back any candidate. He is neutral and will remain neutral in this matter”.

“Kurt has no powers to decide for the voters where they must vote because they are all matured people who can decide for themselves. This is an election and it is not like in the past when the President appoints”.

Meanwhile, ahead of the big day, Randy Abbey, Fred Acheampong, and Samuel Anim Addo are all being tipped for the vice president job at the football governing body.
