Ghana 0-1 Angola: Abdul Mumin would have cleared the ball easily if the pitch was good - Laryea Kingston

Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has jumped to the defense of Abdul Mumin after his poor clearance led to the only goal in Ghana's 1-0 defeat to Angola in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Rayo Vallecano central defender got his feet stuck to the ground, with his clearance falling into the path of Milson, who scored in the 93rd minute to hand the Palancas Negras a 1-0 win at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday.

Speaking on the debate surrounding the pitch and its role in the goal, Kingston expressed the belief that there would have been no difficulty clearing the ball if the pitch had been in good condition.

"If the pitch is very good, I think Mumin will still be on his feet and have a clear opportunity to clear the ball," he told Joy Sports.

"For me, I know people will say we previously played on the same pitch and got results. I want them to know that football has changed... We want to have the ball on the ground, and we want fast pitches.

"The players who played the game last weekend [for their various clubs]... when they come here, they struggle because of the pitch."

Ghana will hope to bounce back against Niger on Monday in their second AFCON qualifier.
