The Ghanaian set the record after scoring in the Black Stars game against Portugal at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil 2014.

Gyan became Ghana's all-time top scorer with 51 goals five months ago when he scored for the Black Stars 5-0 walloping of Ethiopia in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
