Ghana chasing SEVEN dual nationals to play for Black Stars at the 2022 World Cup

According to reports in local Ghana is chasing a total of seven players born abroad but of Ghanaian origin to switch nationalities and play for Ghana at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

First on the list is Chelsea winger Callum Hudson Odoi who has been a target for the past two years. the winger last year came to Ghana to relax and also speak to some prominent individuals in Ghana.

Callum Hudson Odoi- Chelsea

Born in London, England, Hudson-Odoi is a winger with dual English and Ghanaian citizenship because his father was from Ghana. He has already played 3 matches for the Three Lions, but according to FIFA rules, players under the age of 21 can change their national team even if they have played up to 3 matches for the national team.

During his time with Chelsea's academy, Hudson-Odoi was part of the squads which won the U18 Premier League in 2017 as well as back-to-back FA Youth Cup titles. His form at youth level was rewarded in January 2018 when he was handed his senior debut and he has since made over 110 appearances for the club.

Eddie Nketiah- Arsenal

Talks are continuing to get the Arsenal striker in the squad for the World Cup. Nketiah has played for England's junior teams but has yet to play for the senior team. He has struggled to get game time at his club this season and his contract with the Gunners is set to expire. Lots of clubs are battling to sign the attacker this summer. Born in London and raised in Lewisham, Nketiah started his career with Chelsea after being scouted at the age of nine while playing for south-east London Sunday team Hillyfielders. He was released by Chelsea in 2015.

Tariq Lamptey

Tariq Lamptey is another player being pursued by the Ghana FA for the 2022 World Cup.

The Ghana FA and former coach Otto Addo have approached the 22-year-old about a possible nationality move. Lamptey has played for England's youth teams and is eligible to play for the Black Stars.

Lamptey was born in Hillingdon, Greater London. Prior to his Chelsea career, Lamptey was playing grassroots football for his local side, Larkspur Rovers before joining the academy at the age of 8.

Mohammed Salisu

Despite rejecting calls to the national squad, the Ghana FA has not completely abandoned the center-back. In an interview, Black Stars interim coach Otto Addo stated that Mohammed Salisu will join the national team when he is ready.

Salisu started his senior career with Valladolid, featuring for the reserve side before making his first team debut in 2019. He made 34 appearances for the club before joining Southampton for a £10.9 million fee in 2020.

The Williams brothers

According to reports, the Ghana FA is also interested in signing the Williams brothers from Atletico Bilbao to bolster the team's offense ahead of the World Cup. Inaki recently liked on the Black Stars World Cup draw, generating social media speculation about a nationality swap. Formed at Athletic Bilbao's academy, he has made over 300 first-team appearances for the club, including a La Liga record of over 200 consecutive games. Williams made his full debut for Spain in 2016. Nico his brother born in Pamplona, Navarre, Williams joined the youth academy of Athletic Bilbao in 2013 from hometown side CA Osasuna. He began his senior career with the club's farm team, Basconia, during the 2019–20 season.

Ansgar Knauff

The Ghana Football Association is also persuading Ansgar Knauff, who is on loan to Frankfurt from Borussia Dortmund in Germany. The 20-year-old scored against FC Barcelona in the Europa League recently. Knauff was born in Gottingen to a German mother and Ghanaian father, but raised by his single-mother. He began his youth career at hometown club SVG Gottingen, before joining Hannover 96's youth academy in 2015.
