Ghana football awards: Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey wins player of the year

Atletico Madrid midfielder, Thomas Teye Partey has emerged as the winner of the footballer of the year accolade at this year’s edition of the Ghana Football Awards ceremony held at the Marriott Hotel in Accra on Sunday night.

During the 2018/2019 season, the player showed his quality not just for his club in the Spanish La Liga but also helped the Black Stars to secure qualification to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Currently, the SWAG footballer of the year, Thomas Partey beat competition from Black Maidens captain Abdulai Mukarama, as well as Kumasi Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Felix Annan to win the award.

This is the second year in a row that the player has picked up the enviable award and will be motivated to even perform better going into the 2019/2020 season.

The 25-year-old midfield kingpin was part of the squad that represented Ghana at the just ended cup of nations tournament. Though the team only managed to reach the round of 16, Partey scored one goal and played in every game for the Black Stars.

In addition to the footballer of the year award, Partey also picked up the award for the foreign-based footballer of the year.
