Ghana forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh has bid Hearts of Oak an emotional farewell after switching to FC Zurich in Switzerland.

Before the CHAN tournament in Algeria, the 22-year-old penned a four-year deal with the Swiss-based club.

The forward is expected to fly out of the country to continue his trade abroad after three successful seasons with the Phobians.

“It has absolutely been an incredibly wonderful and beautiful journey with Accra Hearts of Oak.

“It would be impossible for me to express in this text all the feelings that I have been experiencing over the last weeks but to sum it up, I would like to say I am the happiest player in the world having been a part of this unique club for the last three seasons.

“I have reflected on a lot and I know that the time has come for a new cycle and challenge in my career. My time as an Oak family player has just ended.

“I have feelings of colossal gratitude for this club. This is to say thank you. It’s been an honour playing for this great club.

“Thank you infinitely to the Board Chairman of the Club Togbe Afede XIV, and the Board Members for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this extraordinary family.

“To the Coaches and teammates I worked with who have played a massive role in my development, to the fans who have tirelessly supported me since the first day I wore our marvelous jersey and to everyone involved in the success of Accra Hearts of Oak, my appreciation, gratitude and respect for you couldn’t be greater.

“I have been successful in everything I ever wanted to accomplish domestically as a player.

“Winning the Ghana Premier League title, two FA Cup trophies, the Super Cup and the President Cup as well with this club are some of the amazing memories and special moments that would stay forever in my heart.

“Thank You Accra Hearts of Oak and good luck for the future.

“You will forever remain a Home to me. Long live Accra Hearts of Oak. PHOBIAAA!!!”

The former Ghana U20 captain cut in the Black Stars' final squad for the global showpiece in Qatar but did not make any appearance at the tournament.

He also featured at the just ended CHAN tournament, where the Black Galaxies exited at the quarterfinals.

Afriyie Barnieh signed for Hearts in July 2019 and went ahead to become a mainstay in the team having played integral role in the club's double triumph in the 2020-21 campaign.
