Ghana goalkeeper Richard Ofori impressed in Maritzburg’s 0-0 draw with South African giants Orlando Pirates.

The former Wa All Stars goalkeeper who was making his second appearance of the season was solid between the sticks as he prevented the Bucs from snatching victory from United.

Ofori was instrumental in the clubs 1-1 draw against Amazulu a week earlier and that saw him gain the coaches confidence, who used him in the game against Orlando Pirates.

It was an entertaining evening’s football at a packed Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday ended in a 0-0 Absa Premiership draw between Maritzburg United and Orlando Pirates.

United made a promising start to proceedings and after Siphesihle Ndlovu had seen an early shot blocked, he looked set to put Maritzburg ahead in the 15th minute after rounding goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands, but Happy Jele got back to clear off the line.

Sandilands again denied a rampant Team of Choice when he kept out Bandile Shandu’s shot before also keeping out Evan Rusike on the rebound.

United played the last 10 minutes with 10 men after Ndlovu was sent off for a second yellow card, some determined defending ensuring the draw and keeping their unbeaten record intact ahead of next Wednesday’s clash with Kaizer Chiefs in PMB.
