Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, is optimistic about Ghana's potential to clinch victory in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, attributing it to the abundant football talent in the country.

The ex-CAF 1st Vice President recently discussed the performance of the Black Stars at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, emphasizing the need for a strategic plan to foster the development of the sport.

Nyantakyi highlighted the presence of talented players like Mohammed Kudus, Ernest Nuamah, and Thomas Partey, expressing confidence that with the right approach, Ghana could break its AFCON trophy drought and even reach the finals of the FIFA World Cup.

"We have exceptional talent in this country. Names like Mohammed Kudus, Ernest Nuamah, and Thomas Partey showcase the potential we possess," he conveyed to GTV Sports Plus.

Acknowledging the evolving nature of football, Nyantakyi stressed the importance of discipline in achieving success. He pointed out that talent alone wouldn't suffice and cited the need for a structured approach. Drawing a parallel with successful football nations like Germany, he emphasized the significance of having a well-defined plan.

"I believe that with the talent we have, winning the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and reaching the World Cup finals is within our grasp. Germany is not inherently superior to us; they simply have a plan, and that's why they are thriving," he added.

Despite high hopes, Ghana's aspirations to end a 42-year trophy drought were dashed when the Black Stars were eliminated at the group stage of the 2023 AFCON, securing only two points. The team faced a defeat against Cape Verde and managed draws against Egypt and Mozambique.
