Former Division One League (DOL) Board Chairman, Lawyer Kwame Ntow has revealed that plans by club owners to cut the pay of players should be aborted because the labour laws of the country do not allow.

In the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic which has forced the suspension of the 2019/2020 football season, club owners are struggling to get money to pay their players.

In a bid to relieve some of the burdens, some of the administrators have shared that they are thinking about cutting pays of players to help them through the period.

Speaking to Silva FM on the matter, Lawyer Ntow Fianko says that the idea will not work in Ghana because it is against the labour laws.

The legal adviser explained, “The laws of Ghana frown on cutting the pay of the citizens. It can only be done with the consent of the players.

“The labour laws enacted in 2003 Act 651 section 69(1) states that " An employer shall not make any deduction by way of discount, interest or any similar change account of an advance of remuneration made to a worker in anticipation of the regular period of payment of remuneration.

“Why are managers of banks and other corporate institutions not also cutting their pays but people calling on players who receive meager salaries to? They should start from the big men then we look at the players, even at that it will be suicidal”, he added.
