Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan quits NPP

Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan has announced he is no longer affiliated to any political party as he turns attention to humanitarian work and youth empowerment.

The former Black Stars skipper was an active member of the New Patriotic Party, serving as the chairman of Youth and Sports Manifesto sub-committee.

He actively supported Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign, who is the flagbearer of the ruling government.

However, Gyan in a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter), expressed he has been unfair to the youth and Ghanaians at large, hence the decision to quit politics to focus on humanitarian work

Gyan, who is the highest African scorer at the World Cup affirmed he will no longer participate in partisan politics.

Meanwhile, the former Sunderland star has wished all parties a peaceful election in on December 7.

The 38-year-old is the all-time top scorer for the Black Stars. He racked up 51 goals in 109 appearances for the West Africa powerhouse.

With six goals, he is the highest African scorer at the FIFA World Cup.
