Ghana legend Michael Essien has eulogized Nico Williams following his outstanding performance for Spain in the Euro 2024 Championship.
The Athletic Bilbao winger delivered a top class performance as Spain cruised to a 2-1 win over England on Sunday night to annex the Euro 2024 title in Germany.
Nico was on target for Spain in the much-anticipated encounter played at the Berlin Olympiastadion
The first half of the game ended in a pulsating goalless draw, as both teams struggled to find the back of the net.
After recess, the Athletic Bilbao winger opened the floodgate for Spain at Berlin Olympiastadion after connecting from Lamine Yamal’s pass, two minutes into the second half.
England pulled parity in the 73rd minute mark through second-half substitute Cole Palmer before Mikel Oyazarbal snatched a late winner for Spain.
"He was amazing, amazing. I mean as a young player, turning up in this big game, scoring for your country, I mean what more can I say? He has been fantastic," he told Sporty TV.
Nico was named Man of the Match following his outstanding display against the Three Lions.
Throughput the tournament, the Spanish-Ghanaian forward racked up two goals and provided an assist in six games.
He also became the second player with Ghanaian heritage to win the competition after Marcel Dessailly, who was champion of Europe with France in 2000.
