Ghana new boy Elisha Owusu explains decision to wait for Black Stars call up

Gent midfielder Elisha Owusu has explained his decision to wait for call up into the senior national soccer team, the Black Stars.

The French-born Ghanaian player earned his first Ghana call up for the crucial World Cup play-off against Nigeria. He was included in Otto Addo’s 27-man squad for blockbuster encounter.

The Black Stars host Nigeria in the first leg on March 25, 2022 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium while the second leg comes of at the Moshood Abiola Sports Stadium in Abuja on March 29.

Speaking to the media upon his arrival, the enterprising midfielder explained he had always wanted to play for his native country, hence his decision to wait for Ghana call up.

"I was very happy and proud. I was thinking about my parents, they are soo happy now".

"I have followed the Ghana national team for sometime. It is a big big achievement and a blessing to be here”

“I have always wanted to play for Ghana, I want to play for the country of my parents, play for Ghana. I feel like is here i want to play that is why i waited. Every player wants to be play in the World Cup and i am so excited to be here", the 24-year-old told reporters after arriving in the country.

The Black Stars began preparations on Monday. Seven players reported for first training at the Accra Sports Stadium.

They will travel to Kumasi on Tuesday to continue their preparations.

The team will train on three occasions in Kumasi. Their first training is on Tuesday evening, another session on Wednesday before their final training on Thursday.

After the final training, coach Otto Addo and some players will interact with the media at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium media centre ahead of the first leg clash on Friday, March 25, 2022.
