Ghana should not expect any easy draw - George Afriyie

Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, George Akwesi Afriyie has indicated that Ghana is ready to face any country in the upcoming Gabon 2017 AFCON draw.

Ghana have been seeded as one of the top four countries for the draw of the final tournament of the Total Africa Cup of Nations in 2017 that will be held in Libreville tonight at 18:00 GMT alongside host nation Gabon, holders Ivory Coast and Algeria.

And as many football enthusiasts have expressed hopeful of the Black Stars getting a favourable draw, George Afriyie has reiterated that there is no easy way out when it comes playing in the AFCON and therefore they are equipped to face every country that will partake in the biennial tournament in Gabon next year.

In a telephone interview with Happy FM’s Anopa Bosuo sports from Libreville, George said, “I know the concern of Ghanaians and not only in Ghana that people want easy draw, but notwithstanding, it will be good when we get those so called small countries. There are no soft draws in this competition though.”

“We met the President of the Guinea Bissau Football Association and he told us that their dream is to be drawn with Ghana in the same group because being their first time in the tournament, they’ll be having fun, but to beat a big country like ours will mean a lot to the whole country. Having said that, it means they’ll be enlivened to beat us when indeed we’re drawn in the same group and so every country is motivated, hence no comfortable group,” George warned.

Ghana will hope to better their second placed finished in 2015 edition when they lost to Ivory Coast 9-8 on penalties.
